Thank You!

First I want to "Thank You" for visiting Sophia's website and following our story. I originally began posting small blogs on a pregnancy website when I first found out I was pregnant. I copied those blogs over to this site so that everyone has the opportunity to follow our story from the beginning. Sophia has brought so much joy and happiness into my heart and I hope she finds her special place within yours.

Rough Day 12-13-09

Posted by Sara Frizzell on Wednesday, May 18, 2011, In : 2009

Today was a rough day for Sophia. I'm sitting here crying and I'm not sure if it's from exhaustion or simply from the day we had. After Sophia's feeds her oxygen level goes up and down but today was awful. The culprit is reflux and today was terrible. Usually she stays between 99 and 78 on oxygen level but today she kept dipping down into the 50's. She's able to go back up on her own without needing oxygen but just the fact that it keeps happening is hard to handle. At one point she was reall...

2 days old 11-26-09

Posted by Sara Frizzell on Wednesday, May 18, 2011, In : 2009

Sophia is now two days old and she's doing well. So much had been going on and I've been so tired but spending as much time in the NICU as possible. I was told by my nurse yesterday that I need to stop walking so much and rest. I was walking back and forth between my room in one hospital and hers in the next. I still had my antibiotics every few hours and other meds I had to be back for but as soon as it was all done I was right there with Sophia. My husband was at the hospital but he hadnt s...

Posted by Sara Frizzell on Wednesday, May 18, 2011, In : 2009

Good Morning All! Sophia arrived yesterday afternoon at 5:57 pm. She weighed 3 pounds 1 ounce and is 14 inches long with a head full of curly hair. She's doing so good and is such a fighter. At first she was on 30% oxygen but by the time she got to the NICU she was taken off the oxygen is is breathing all on her own. She's keeping her body temp up on her own and has just surprised us all at how well she's doing. She is absolutely perfect!!!!

Her arms and hands are as we expected but she's b...

Scheduled Birthday 11-20-09

Posted by Sara Frizzell on Wednesday, May 18, 2011, In : 2009

During our appointment today we learned that Sophia has dropped from the 5th percentile down to the 3rd. While she grew and gained 8 oz she should have gained at least a pound. Today Sophia's estimated weight was 2 pounds 14 ounces. Due to her lack in growth and complications that can come of this, we scheduled Sophia's birth for next Tuesday. My doctor feels Sophia will do better on the outside and fears that if we keep her in we risk losing her all together. So on 11/24/09 at 5:30 pm I will...

31.5 Week Doctor Appt 11-6-09

Posted by Sara Frizzell on Wednesday, May 18, 2011, In : 2009

Our appointment today didnt tell us anything unexpected but it's still shocking to hear. At our last appointment two weeks ago Sophia's estimated weight was 2 lbs 1 oz and this week she's at 2 lbs 6 oz so not much growth in the past 2 weeks. We are starting weekly fetal non stress test this coming Wednesday (11/11/09) but we will remain seeing the doctor every two weeks. Sophia's growth has slowed and my doctor thinks it's starting to level off and once a child in utero begins to level off in...

Ultrasound & Fetal MRI 9-30-09

Posted by Sara Frizzell on Wednesday, May 18, 2011, In : 2009

Today has to be one of the hardest days yet. I believe my little girl has stopped growing inside of me. Last week Sophia was measuring 2 weeks behind except for her femurs which were 3 weeks behind. Now Sophie is measuring 3 weeks behind, her femur 4 weeks behind, and her lower leg 5 weeks behind. The only thing measuring on time is her brain. She is missing her radius in her right arm and I believe it's missing in her left arm as well. I'm not even sure if she is able to move her arms as wit...

Whats next & Amnio Preliminary Results 9-24-09

Posted by Sara Frizzell on Wednesday, May 18, 2011, In : 2009

I failed my one hour glucose test today after only having one banana for breakfast. Every time I step into a doctors office something else goes wrong. I feel like I'm just waiting for the next bad thing to come along and slap me in my face. My three hour glucose is scheduled for next Monday morning and I'm so scared to go into my doctors office. I dont think I can take anymore bad news. I've also scheduled my fetal MRI for next wednesday. 10 am they will do an ultrasound and at 11:30 they wil...

First High Risk OB Appt. 9-23-09

Posted by Sara Frizzell on Wednesday, May 18, 2011, In : 2009

Yesterday I didnt have the emotional or physical strength to get online and post about our appointment. It seems like everytime we see someone the news keeps getting worse and worse. The appointment started with the nurse doing the ultrasound and Sophia looked beautiful. We were all smiles watching her on the tv's they had placed all around the room. My son Daniel just keept looking at his sister making comments like, "I see her ribs, her spine, etc...." During the scan the doctor came in and...

The Day After 9-12-09

Posted by Sara Frizzell on Wednesday, May 18, 2011, In : 2009

It's the day after we got the news about Sophia's arm and this type of news has been harder for me to process than I thought. I've tried to keep myself busy but I find that no matter what I do I'm thinking about it. I see little girls and I just stare at their arms and start crying. I try to hide my tears from my husband and mainly from my boys. I think they know something is going on but they arent sure. My youngest son kept looking at me earlier with this wondering eye. I could just see his...

2nd Fetal Scan 9-11-09

Posted by Sara Frizzell on Wednesday, May 18, 2011, In : 2009

Todays ultrasound was one I will never forget. We were told our little girl probably does not have an arm from her elbow down on the right side. You know when the radiologist comes into your room, something is not right. What I dont understand is how this could have been missed during our fetal anatomy u/s 4 weeks ago. One would think, due to all that can go wrong, looking and documenting every body part would be a requirement. The radiologist did not take all hope away that Sophie could have...

Update on ultrasound 9-7-09

Posted by Sara Frizzell on Wednesday, May 18, 2011, In : 2009

Time sure does fly when you're having fun! For the past hour and a half Sophia has been kicking, punching, flipping, and moving around. Although I LOVE feeling her moving around after so long it's a bit painful. I have noticed that she's awake more at night than during the day which means I'll have to break her from that habit ASAP. We will not be playing at 3am! I'm constantly hungry now. As soon as I wake up I have to eat something. The urge to eat is overwhelming. I feel like such a fat as...

1st Prenatal Appt. 6-4-09

Posted by Sara Frizzell on Wednesday, May 18, 2011, In : 2009

Well my first prenatal appointment was today and I was finally able to see my baby. The heart beat was 180 bpm and the baby measured at 9 weeks 1 day. Based on my last menstrual cycle I'm 9 weeks 5 days so not enough difference to change the due date. The nurse told me there is a good chance we are having a girl since the heart rate was so high. That just made me even more excited because after two boys I am really wanting a girl. The baby starting moving during the scan which was very exciti...
